Sassafras Gap Shelter. Appalachian Trail. Swain, NC

Sassafras gap shelter located in Swain, North Carolina.  The sassafras tree is common along the AT. The elevation is 4330.  Sassafras gap shelter is one of more popular shelters. I came across this Pinterest board of a marbling effect done. And it gave me the idea that’s how it kinda looks when you open a geode or polish a stone.

I found out that emeralds are common along that AT. And I googled pictures of what it looks like when it id polished and or cracked open. I wanted to incorporate that in with my sassafras leaf it self. So I created a low poly and added the different colors of the emerald. And took that put it on the leaf itself. The reason why I did low poly because i reminded me of how it would look like broken and opened up. With the different sizes and pieces.
